A Season of Gratitude

TALES BLOG / A Season of Gratitude

Written by Margaret Stinnett, HIP Executive Director
Where thankfulness is an emotion, gratitude is an attitude of appreciation under any circumstance. Gratitude involves being thankful, but it is more than that. Gratitude means expressing thankfulness and being appreciative of life daily even when nothing exciting happens. Gratitude hints that something wonderful is about to happen.

Hand in Paw thrives because of the support of many people in our community. For 27  years, this nonprofit has never charged a recipient of our services. This is because our Volunteers give their time, resources and share their well-cared for pet with children, hospital patients, people with disabilities, schools, veterans, seniors, first-responders, doctors, nurses, and mental health professionals. HIP volunteers are saturated with gratitude. Thankful for the good things in their own lives – they go out to find others to serve. They walk in with gratitude, and they leave with gratitude engraved on their hearts. The more you give, the more you receive.

Today I am spotlighting 3 amazingly loyal supporters of our work. While I could mention a thousand other supporters by name – space limits me.

Ken Jackson kicked off the Capital Campaign, (2017) that built our amazing training facility because he believes and is inspired by the healing power of animals and the professional training of generous volunteers. He has supported the organization for 27 years and continues to do so. Our volunteers, community partners and the people we serve experience Ken’s kindness and generosity every day. What a legacy!

VP Funds, a private foundation that holds these virtues in the highest regard, “Kindness, Consideration and Common Sense,” has supported Hand in Paw for the past four years. We meet these ideals. When speaking with VP Funds – I understand the founder finds immense joy in giving. Supporting organizations that improve the quality of our lives gives meaning and purpose – and gives our corner of the world a sense of GRATITUDE.

  • HIP brings kindness to humans and gives kindness to animals.
  • HIP  is considerate of every soul we serve, whether they are 2 years old or 100. We consider what their needs are and provide a professionally trained therapy team to serve with a humble heart. Our consideration comes with a quiet dignity.
  • Common sense tells us that humans struggle with emotional, physical, and mental health challenges. Common sense tells us they need the love and joy only a well-trained therapy animal can give. VP Funds elevates our community every day.

The generosity of VP Funds elevates our community every day. VP Funds funded the creation of this special Activity Book, which is given to patients after a visit from a Therapy Team.

Because of their philanthropic reputation, it is time to recognize Tito’s Handmade Vodka. For several years now, Tito’s has offered support to Hand in Paw by sponsoring events and funding special projects. Last summer we received a very generous grant from the heart of their founder. “Love, Tito’s.” Many of you may know Tito’s Vodka is the VODKA FOR DOG PEOPLE. They are enthusiastic about improving the lives of animals and uplifting communities like Birmingham! Tito’s asked us to increase our visits to veterans and seniors. With their support, we are in the middle of a successful volunteer recruiting campaign, one that will allow us to serve the people who have served our nation. Tito’s Vodka, in partnership with Hand in Paw, is putting more loving Therapy Teams in nursing homes, assisted-living and senior community centers.

When we think of corporate responsibility and truly giving back – Tito’s Vodka is the model of generosity and frankly – if you need a drink to celebrate and reflect on all the gratitude around you – you cannot go wrong with a Tito’s Vodka cocktail. They are kind and DELICIOUS. Their tremendous success all over the world is the karma that comes when you put others needs on your radar.

If  you live in gratitude – you believe something wonderful is about to happen. Joy is happening here at Hand in Paw. Gratitude leaves paw prints all over the building, in our gardens and in the community we serve. Hand in Paw prints are in our world because of the generous and gratitude-filled missions of Ken Jackson, VP Funds and Tito’s Vodka and of course the gifts of service our volunteers give every day. Something wonderful is about to happen.
